Fearsome Creature of the Sea by Fish-Cow Fearsome Creature of the Sea by Fish-Cow
Baby sea monster is on your beach stepping on your sand castles...

So I drew a cute monster :] i figured why not? (its a waste of time and you have real art to finish? psh whatever) It recommended to use seven colors, which..........I did not quite manage. :faint: oh well. when its over I might upload one with proper colors.

there is also a blue one! :D [link] I dont know which one I like better..

And remember to vote :saddummy:

He's so cute!! Silly monster, you're supposed to be terrorizing the people at the beach not their sandcastles. :D

I just love it, you have my vote!

Not sure how the fading effect works in terms of colors. Such as, the purple of his fins going from darker purple to lighter. no idea how they judge that! ^_^; either way, I definitely like it. Oh, and I like the green better than the blue. Blue looks cool, but the green stands out more. And is more "monster-y" Lol! It's a good choice.

oh yeah i forgot about that...i had some angst about if i could/should do that(it was really an experiment ive never done it before)i see that a lot on shirts though so i figured it would be okay...hmmm the fins would be fairly easy to redo but i have the same effect on the body and i really like it :{ oh well in the very very very very unlikely event that i win and they need me to change it i can...

At least you read the rules! Half or more of the entries disqualify themselves by breaking more than just the color rule. And I prefer this shirt over lots and lots of others to win >_< Enough about that though. How'd you achieve the fading effect? Did you use photoshop? I'm so attached to my traditionally created art that whenever I attempt something digital, I FAIL hard :shithitsthefan: LOL

yeah I used photoshop. Its the gradient tool, you find it if you right click on the paint bucket. the basic one (what i used) takes the two colors you have selected and creates a fade where you click. I also used a clipping layer to keep it where I wanted. (you create a layer above the one you have colored and right click and select clipping layer.)

I love photoshop though I find it very hard to shade realistically in it. though tons of people do so that's probably just me. :/

Wow....clipping layer and gradient tool...I never knew about those at all. Thank you for explaining it to me! I get lost on instructionals and tutorials about Pshop. It goes so far over my head most times. It takes talent (and practice) to understand and use it properly, I think. So good for you! Seriously, I've had it for years and it's still way beyond me being competent with it. I probably won't ever be competent with it!!
Somehow I just can't seem to grasp the awesome techniques photoshop makes available to artists. I suppose it has always been easier for me to drag out paints or markers and make what I needed to happen by myself....but everything nowadays tends to lean toward the cleaner, digitally colored artwork. I can definitely see the appeal. That, and "boo-boos" are SO much easier to fix. :P

oh the undo key! I could write odes to the undo key. well actually more the ability to erase with out leaving a mark. Thats the main reason I like digital art. I am a horrible commitaphobe.:saddummy: With traditional art I always go "ok...I have my sketch. I should do something with it now. but oh my god what if I mess up?!!! or Its the wrong color?! or I want to change something?! *sob, cry, sob, eat ice cream, get fat, die*" Like I recently printed out an outline I did digitally to paint with watercolors and I could't get the skin tone right and I decided I wanted a different color scheme when I was half way through...If it had been the original I would have messed up the whole picture! D:

But I don't think digital art is inherently prettier. And you never have an original. And showing someone a picture you drew on the computer is not that impressive :faint: "oh you want to see my art? here look at this little screen"
